I also set up one of my own, of course, and four years into it I went into burnout about three weeks ago. Just turned the pooter off one day and didn't turn it back on until I needed it for other practical reasons. I understand completely. The current political climate -- one in which one hops from one island of hope to another through a sea of crud! -- is getting all of us down. It would be great to see you back here sometime, or if not here perhaps somewhere else. In the meantime, I hope you are feeling liberated and surprised (as I was) at how full and interesting and calm life can be without the !*&#! blog!

Re: Gone Fishing

Maybe you'll get your ...

Re: Gone Fishing

You have been one of the best! Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer is currently right behind Franken in delegate strength for the state Democratic endorsing convention in June. Jack would actually be a much better choice than Franken. Jack was against the Iraq war, whereas Franken supported it for the first few years. Jack wants to end the occupation immediately, whereas Franken wants to be more "thoughtful" and deliberate about leaving. Jack is for single-payer, whereas Franken supports a plan where 50 states would each have their own plan. Jack opposes new coal plant and new nuclear plants, whereas Franken thinks perhaps "clean coal" might make the U.S. more energy independent, and perhaps nuclear power should be part of the solution to global warming. Jack is a stirring speaker, has a style that resonates with Minnesotans, has written a dozen books on foreign policy issues, has a 30-year history with progressive movements. The best senator would clearly be Jack, and it is just possible that Jack also has the best chance of defeating Republican incumbent Norm Coleman.

Re: Fixing the Process

Hilariously, the blogger Big Tent Democrat claims he favors Obama. There was Bosniagate, and every once in a while the media mentions her high untrustworthy ratings. But because Obama's playing this new politics theme, he's not attacking her where she's weak (the benefit is that superdelegates seem to be rewarding him for it). As a result, the current climate, I think, is exaggerating Obama's weaknesses, at least when compared to hers. Not that I don't think Obama is in a weaker position than he was a couple of months ago, he is, but nearly all of the questions of electability are being asked about him at the moment.

Re: Just Say No

Ron, on the way in to work this morning I was having similar thoughts--I would just sit this one out if Hillary won the nomination.

But I took my medication and calmed down.

It's too early to tell how this will unfold.
